Married Men Without Children To Be In Class 1

The local conscription board is in receipt of a new order from Provost Marshall Crowder with reference to the classification of registrants who are married, but have no .children dependent on them for support. Men of this class are to be assigned to class 1, division 1. Heretofore married men without children have been put in class 2, division B. The same rule will apply to a widower whose own children are dependent on him for support. If a registrant has both a wife and a child, but have other available means of support, he is to be placed in sub-division A of class 2. If a registrant has a wife, but no children and she has other sources of support so that the husband’s going to war will not deprive her of a living, the registrant goes in class 1, as not being included in any other division of the schedule. The new order will require the local board to re-classify a number of registrants who have already been given their classification.
