INCOME TAXES ARE NOW DUE

COLLECTING OF NEW LIBERTY LEVIES BEGAN THIS WEDNESDAY MORNING.

The task of collecting individual and corporation income revenues, the liberty taxes imposed by congress during its special session began in Indiana this Wednesday morning. Headquarters of the sixth district, which includes 59 counties in the state, will be in the federal building at Indianapolis. AU persons or representatives of corporations will be required to call on< or write ‘ to the federal collectors for the tax return blanks. However, for the benefit of persons in counties distant from Indianapolis, Revenue Collector Peter J. Kruyer is arranging to send tax crews to county seats on dates to be advertised ahead of time. AU returns must be in March 1. A; angle person whose income exceeds SI,OOO the rate of taxation ik 2 per cent. Married persons whose incomes exceed $2,000 are subject to the tax. The minimum rate of taxation is 2 per cent. All persons who attempt to evade the tax, it was declared at the collector’s office, will be vigorously prosecuted. The state council of defense announced that through its county councils it would work with the deputies in apprehending violators of the liberty tax.
