An Appeal For The Red Cross

The American Red Cross is about to begin a new membership campaign We wish to say a few words for the readers of The Republican. Doubt less many of you are members of the Red Cross, having made your subscription of one dollar some time after April Ist, this year, with the understanding that the membership was thus paid for one year in advance. That is quite right. But the Red Cross, in the immense work that it has undertaken, needs money without limit—and the support of every patriot. In the new membership campaign it is desired to enroll each individual who is willing to support the work to the extent of one.dollar* —without regard to the fact that he or she previously paid one dollar some time during the current year. You all know what the Red Cross is doing; caring for our soldiers; providing them with necessities and comforts in camp and trench; nursing them in hospitals; caring for their families at home; clothing; feeding and housing the countless thousands in France and Belgium, of Italy and Serbia and Roumania who have felt the ruthless hand of Germany.
