Evening Republican, Volume 21, Number 229, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 12 October 1917 — Rensselaer Coal Supply Limited. [ARTICLE]

Rensselaer Coal Supply Limited.

The editor of the Republican called up the five coal yards in this city today and got the following replies: First Call—Just received car soft coal today. Have four others on the road that should arrive soon. Have no chestnut anthracite but have plenty of stove and egg. Second Call —Will be entirely out of coal tonight. Have no coal coming. Third Call—Received two cars of soft coal today. Fourth Call—Out of coal. Fifth Call—Have half car of coal. Have other cars due to arrive. Undoubtedly the shortage of coal is due largely to the desire of the coal miners to continue to rob the people and their failure to push their output until the government gives them better prices. The action of the coal miners for the past year is deserving of the severest punishment that can be inflicted under the law.
