The captain of the local volunteers was explaining his system of personal canvass with a view of-.obtainlng recruits. “Be brief In your general explanation,” he said, “and dwell on the respective merits of classes A, B and C under the volunteer act. Will Corporal Jones now step forward and give us an example of how he would canvass?” Corporal Jones, stepping forward and saluting, said: “If the order of the classes were reversed, the matter would be greatly simplified.
