Big Building Campaign On At Camp Shelby.
Camp Shelby is not yet finished. According to the announcements of the building contractors of the southern cantonment, orders have been received for the construction of about two hundred more buildings already thought completed. The new orders will require the presence of the builders at Camp Shleb'y for a space of from two to three months longer than was expected. The new building order is not to presage the coming of a great additional number of troops to the camp. Instead, it looks like great permanency for the cantonment on its present situation, as the buildings are, in the majority of cases, simply extras, as barns, mess halls, blacksmith shops, warehouses, etc. Here’s an item of interest to all of the soldiers. They will not -be forced to take cold shower baths all winter long. Uncle Sam has ordered that all the bath houses be equipped with water heaters. Some order, that, for every company in every regiment at the camp has its bath house, and according to the contractors, none will be missed when it comes to putting in the heating apparatus. It will mean practically the rebuilding of all the bath houses as well as the latrines, as it is understood that specifications have been changed on these, as well. Then, and here’s another big item. Every building now on the grounds will be equipped with windows and shutters. Every mess hall now fitted only with screens, is to be so arranged that it may be entirely closed up in cold Weather. This will undoubtedly be a pleasing innovation, for open sides are not conductive to hot meals in bad weather.
