Rum’s Death Will Occur At Eleven O'clock Tonight.
All distilleries in the United States will cease the manufacture of whiskey at 11 o'clock this Friday night. With the trickling of the last drops of whiskey from the stills they will be prevented from making whiskey during our war with Germany. Wholesale and retail liquor dealers voice the opinion that if the war continues only another thirty days no material effect will be felt on the price of liquor, but if it continues until next April, the price of a glass of whiskey will soar to 50c. The end of the present month will probably witness a big boost in the price of whiskey. The government is expected to place into effect the new war revenue bill. This means that every wholesaler and retailer must Eay |2.10 for every gallon of whisey or similar products, such as gid and wine, which he has on hand. According to wholesale dealers this will mean that they must sell to the retailer at the rate of >2.50 per quart.
