CHEWS PIECE OF GUM 17 DAYS; SAVES LIFE

New York. —A fund to purchase chewing gum for soldiers lii the trenches has been started since Maj. A. H Q’Connpr, late of the British army, told how his - life has been saved by a lone piece of gum. _ “I would probably have died of thirst,’’ he said, “if L had not chewed the gum for 17 days, as the water was unfit to drink.”
