Japanese Clearing Houses.
The first bankers’ clearing house established In Japan on the foreign model was that at Osaka, for hundreds of years the trade center of the country, in 1879. It was not until eight years later that Tokyo followed suit, opening her clearing house in 1887. Today clearing houses are in operation In Kyoto, Yokohama, Kobe, Nagoya, Shlmonosekl, Moji, Hiroshima, Kanazawa, Hakodate and Otaru.
