Motorists Think Checkerboard Warnings Will Attract the Eye of the Driver Readily. Checkerboard signs have been erected in Columbus, O„ as danger signals. Certain street intersections and the narrow parkways in the center of wide

thoroughfares have been the scenes of numerous motor accidents, and these boards, composed of black and white squares arranged alternately, have been set up as warnings at these places. They bear no inscription except a

statement that they were Installed by the Columbus Automobile club. . It is believed that the checkered pattern will attract the eye readily and soon will come to be recognized by all as an emblem of danger. The city has promised to equip them with red lights. The measure three by six feet.
