BLOCK SIGNALS ARE PRECISE
Only Once In 89,000 Times Do Automatic Devices Fall to Indicate in Proper Manner. Once in 89,000 times have automatic block signals on the Southern Pacific failed on the average to indicate properly to the locomotive engineer, according to recent records of the railroad company. This failure to record is not when danger is ahtad. but when the track is clear and the engineer is held back. The record covers the period of one year. There are about 7,000 block signals in use on the system. representing an investment of $4,500.000. In 1916 they performed about 71,000,000 separate operations.
