Merchants and Manufacturers Looking Forward Eagerly to Opening of Chinese Markets. “It" is the AmerTcan determination,” says Asia’s writer In speaking of the part the United States can play in the situation in China, “to provide railroads. which will return operating profits In developing traffic, railroads well built at modest cost. Our merchants and manufacturers, our lumber and shipping men on the Pacific coast who believe in China’s possibilities are looking forward with eagerness to the opening of the Chinese market. It should mean not only an Immediate demand for steels rails" and bridges, cars and locomotives, but the beginning of demand for mills and machinery for industrial plants possible along the railroad lines.”
