Do Not Be a Slacker in Business.
New Y«fc, May 8, IW.—“One of the greatest danger® that confront us at this moment is mragwded thrift," dedtaree a statement issued today by S. W. Straus, president of the American Society far Thrift. "In our efforts to be patriotically ecouonrical, we find ourselves going to extremes in the opposite direction, which is just as great a menace as wastefulness and extravagjance. "The point is to differentiate between destructive and constructive thrift In times of peace or war, waste is reprehensible, but indiscriminate tight-fistedness is worse, because in such conditions the provident are made to suffer with the ionprovi“Everyone can distinguish the difference between prudent living and wadteftrlnees. If a man buys a euit of cflothes, a pair of shoes or a hat, his money goes into iegitknate circulation and furnishes uw for capital and employment of labor. “Adnwiiater your expenditures in I a dean, honest, legitimate and patriotic manner. Eliminate waste of food, hearing in mind that every mouthful you save may ibe the sustenance of some starving fellow human being abroad. We should not tear down on one hand while we are trying to build up on the other. Those in business should not hesitate—be courageous and keep on going. America is still in the midst of the neatest era of malberiafl prosperity the country has ever known.' *Tn the matter of individual expenditure every man should be guided by his own necessities and the needs off his country. Let none of us be a Slacker in the (business world. This is no way for the coward or weakling. Be brave and confident. Remember, the most acute need of our nation today is intelligent, productive, constructive thrift”

SCIENCE ANO SANITATION - £> Science Has Discovered that Nearly all Ills of Childhood Can be Prevented Those who have made the study of diseases their life’s work, have learned that most diseases are produced by germs; which enter the body through the month and nose. If the mucous membrane, which line the mouth, nose and throat are not kept clean and sanitary, the germs which lodge there, will develop and multiply and produce disease according to their kind. The only way to combat these germs is to thoroughly cleanse the mucous membrane daily. There is nothing better for this -purpose than Glando Gargle. It is a safe and sane antiseptic prepared especially for this purpose. It is fine for a cold in the head, catarrh, sore throat, sore mouth and in feet any disease that effect the delicate membrane of the mouth, nose or throat. It is an excellent preventative for adenoids and a Splendid teething lotion. B. f. Fendig.

A Practical War Proposal.
Senator Hale, of Maine, makes a very practical proposal in a resolution providing that German prisoners of war be transferred from" Great Britain and France to this country. Great Britain and France are caring for hundreds of thousands of prisoners of wtar. We are straining every effort to get fcod to these nations, a part of which must be used in feeding war prisoners. If those captured Germans and Austrians are transported to this country we can feed the m without having to ship food thousands of miles to them. That ailso would make available to the armies and civil population of our allies a larger percentage of the food we do succeed in getting past the submarines. Furthermore, if our shops return to this country loaded with prisoners of war there will be little danger from submersibles on the return trip. And there is another consideration. If it were to become generally noised about fin Germany that prisoners are transported to America where there is plenty to eat, the temptation o surrender might be afanost irreriastaftde.
