A Civic Prayer.

For our comfortable living, for our fair surroundings, for our many blessings which the poor must lack, we give hearty thanks; and we resolve that from what store we have, a little more than we ca n coifi f<>r t abl y a fford shall be given to those servants of the’ poor who seek to cheer forlorn homes, ttf lift up weary lives, to open the patl“ of opportunity, to remove old evils, and to cure the plague of poverty at its very sources. This is d<me in the hope and faith that (our city) will thus become a fairer and better home for all'alike, and that virtue, courage, and pencewiUincrease ‘visibly among us arid bless (our city) among all cities, forevermore. Amen. —Frederick Alrny
