Attorney George Hershman and family autoed down from Crown Point Friday afternoon and spent the night with Mrs. Smith Newell, an aunt of Mrs.' Hershman. Gibson, deputy sheriff of Daviess county, returned to Washington today with J. Warren Smith, who is charged with wife * desertion. Mr. Smith said that his arrest is the result of spite work on the part of his uncle, who is the chief of police' of Washington, ard that he has receipts for money that he has been sending to his wife each week. He hopes to return and resume his work here by Wednesday. V , An Indian buck with a girl papoose, from the tribe of the Jicrai, of New Mexico, arrived in Rensselaer Friday evening. The little girl is known as Chuck-Chuck-Awa, which in English means Wliite §moke, and the name of the man is Thunderwater. They are agents for a magazine and in this way are working their way back to their native land in New Mexico. They were with the 101 Ranch show in ChicagQ, which suspended operations and are forced to work their passage back .to New Mexico; NOTICE. All dogs must be kept up or they will be killed.
