Rheumatism in Dogs.
One of the commonest afflictions among dogs Is rheumatism. It often seizes upon them in their early puppy days- and carries them through weeks of torture, In-which their limbs become twisted and their tempers affected for life? In its acute stages the joints become swollen and inflamed, and only with the greatest pain may the dog move at all. While the best methods of combating the disease are preventive methods, such as good housing. careful diet and sufficient exercise, it has been discovered that the rheumatic dog will qulbkly recover under a treatment of salicylate of sodium, given in doses of from 5 to 15 grains—according to the size of the dbg—every day, while colchicum In doses of from 8 to 30 drops three times a day has also proved remarkably beneficial.
