CAN CARRY TWO LONG TRAINS

One Operating Between California Points ts Claimed to Be Easily —the Largest in World, A vessel which is claimed to be the largest ferryboat in the world carries trains across Carquinez straits, between Port Costa and Benicia, Cal., a distance of one mile. It is the property: of the Southern Pacific railroad company and is 433 feet in length over all, 116 feet beitm over guards. 66 feet molded beam, and measures 3,800 tons. The deck has four train tracks with a capacity of 36 freight cars or 24 passenger cars, and two locomotives. Two sets of oilburning engines, each of 2.500 horse power, turn a paddle wheel on each side, by which the boat can be swung around in its own length. Hull and superstructure art* of wood and contain 2,000,000 feet of lumber.
