Mose Leopold Awarded Loving Cup Christmas Day.

Mose Leopold, well known attorney, who has made several bids for fame in various lines, realized a four years’ ambition on Christmas day. Some time ago someone told Mr. Leopold that he was a checker player and he believed it. Since that time he has been hurling defies at all the checker exponents in town. Michael Wagner is another checker player of renowned ability. These two men were recognized as the cream of the checker players of the Van Rensselaer Club and of course the meeting ,of these two athletes in a game over the checker board was inevitable. Christmas day was desigthe day for the clash, with a silver loving cup as the prize to oe awarded to the winner of the match, possession of which they may retain for one year from date. The match was a five game set and was scheduled for 2 o’clock Christmas afternoon. * Wagner started off in whirlwind fashion and downed Leopold the first two games, and for the first time in weeks Mr. Leopold did not mention his checker prowess. Wagner waxed overconfident and in a few moments Leopold had evened matters up. The fifth and deciding game went to Leopold after a long drawn out tussle, much to the regret of the onlookers, who were in hopes that Mr. Leopold would be silenced once and for all. Mr. Wagner presented Mr. Leopold with the cup, congratulating him on his victory, and Mr. Leopold responded with a few touching words wishing his vanquished opponent better success on his next appearance.
