We listened to an argument last week between a farm implement salesman and a couple of farmers. He was telling them that a farmer should prepare his land in better shape and farm better to get the best results the year round. And that most failures were due to the poor fanning rather than bad seasons. The argument advanced by the farmers was that this year they used the same method and the same machinery to raise a small crop that they used throe years ago to produce 60 bushels per acre. The salesman claimed that this .year the land he mentioned had produced 75 bushels per acre, but further talk showed that the conditions in that particular locality were better from a weather standpoint than here. It looks to an innocent bystander like the main difference between land which at its best produces 60 bushels per acre and other land which at its best produces 75 bushels per acre is 16 bushels per acre. If the climatic zone is the same, the difference must 'be in the soil and method of fanning. As both of these can be improved, it looks like its up to the farm owner and farmer. —Exchange.
