PUTS BAN ON “SKYSCRAPERS”

New York City’ Takes Steps to Control Buildings New York—New York City puts its official ban on skyscrapers when the board of estimates, by a unanimous vote adopted a plan which had for its object .the prevention of indiscriminate building of structures without relation to neighborhoods, rights of property ownlrs or existing values. Hereafter no building can be erected above a certain comparatively low height, unless it has decidedly larger light and air courts than have been required in the past. Owners of properties in central sections which are available for Improvement with skscrapers, fearing the effects of the new regulation, almost Overwhelmed the bureau of buildings with plans for monumental structures, some of them'comparable to the great est piles of stone, steel and masonry ir the city. Twenty six plans were' filed calling for an expenditure of $22,675,000. r
