RED SOX SPANK ROBINS IN OPENER
Leonard Downs Marquard in Opening . (fame Marked By Slugging of Both Teams—Score 6-5.
In the opening game of the world’s series played at Braves Field, Boston, this afternoon, Carrigan’s Red Sox defeated Brooklyn 6 to 5. A crowd in excess of 44,000 viewed the battle. Carrigan selected southpaw Leonard to do the twirling for the Hose. Rube Marquaid, veteran world series hero, was the choice of Robinson to do the heaving for the Brooklynites. Both huriers were-hit rather ficely and several extra base clouts were made by both sides. Both teams Were a trifle nervous, but the famed steadiness of the Boston defense saved Leonard. Monday’s game will bo played at Boston, following which the two teams move to Brooklyn.
