High School Squad Looks To Be Best In Years.

The Rensselaer high school football squad of 1916 looks to be the best that has represented the red and black in the past several years. There have been twenty-four men report so far to try out for gridiron honors. Coach Meyers has had the men going through preliminary conditioning stunts this first week, and they have also indulged in some light signal work. The team right now is as far along at the end of the first week as the squad of 1915 was at the end of the third week. Practically every one of the candidates are in good physical condition now and ready for more -gruelling practice. This condition was probably brought about by the fact that most of the candidates have been preparing themselves through - the past summer for the coming football season. Last year’s warriors look’ better than ever, and the new men to report are above the average and are developing spLendidly, and Coach Meyers is greatly encouraged. The teams representing Rensselaer in the past three years have not been up to the usual * high standard of teams of former years and this year’s squad is expected to place Rensselaer back on the football map. The opening game of the season will probably be played on October 7.
