We know that at Germantown, this city, was made the first German settlement in America. We also know that in fifty years double that many thousand Germans came to William Penn’s colony. Furthermore, history tells u's that wars and religious persecutions in Germany caused this then unparalleled exodus of men and women. But what brought them to Pennsylvania and so made of this the German commonwealth?
