Proverbially an Irish soldier has many lives. One of them fancied he had long enough to live to comply witlr the demand which a Frehch mother made upon him’'thus, “If you kill the kaiser, you shall have my daughter.” He was also an Irishman who said of a glimpse he had of a Russian Guard regiment.
