Dr. H. L. Brown returned Monday afternoon after a week’s visit in the east, where he went for the purpose of attending the meeting f the Mystic Shriners at Buffalo. Mrs. Brown and Mary Jane accompanied Dy. Brown on the trip, but remained in Toronto, where they will visit for a few days. In commenting on his trip, Dr. Brown stated that the scenes in Buffalo during the Shriners meeting was the most beautifu,! sight that he ever witnessed and that the beauties of the celebration could not be exaggerated.* The city was beautifully decorated with flags, bunting and electrical effects, and was especially beautiful at night. Immense parades were held, one of which took three hours to pass a given point, and for contrasts, combinations, harmony and variety they could not be improved upon. There were Indian and Arabian costumes as well as costumes portraying the dress of the ancients. There were 87 bands, which took-part in all the functions, almost every temple sending a band. There were 119 temples represented and there are but 187 temples in the United States which was a truly wonderful showing. The attendance was estimated by figuring that each visitor spent ss, j and there was over $6,500,000 spent in Buffalo by visitors during the week, which means that there were in the neighborhood of 1,300,000 visitors in the city that week to attend the meeting. Dr. Brown was greatly please<J with” the trip and thinks that it is the most inspiring sight one could see anywhere. Before returning home Dr. Brown and family visited in Toronto, Can., where a castle is nearing completion. The construction of the castle will cost in the neighborhood of $3,000,000, and probably will be the most beautiful building of its kind in the world when completed. Dr. Brown stated that nearly half of .he people on the streets in Canada are soldiers and that the war spirit in that country is at a very high pitch. Dr. Brown and family made the trip by train with the exception of the last stage from Niagara Falls to Buffalo, which was made by boat.
