Mrs. Kathryn Waymire went to, Chicago yesterday to see her mother, Mrs. Eli Arnold, who was operated on about two weeks ago. Mrs. T. C. Thornton, came from Detroit, Mich., yesterday to visit Mrs. Wm. Dixie and other relatives and friends here. Mrs. Chas. Querry returned to her home in Sidell, 111., this morning after attending the funeral .of her father, Mr. Osborne. Dr. Leslie Sharrer will be in my office every afternoon from 1 until 4 o’clock and can be called at any other time of day or night by calling 211. — Dr. C. E. Johnson. Mlf and Mrs. R. E. Thornton and little son, of O’Bceola, lowa, are here for a visit with Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Thornton and will also visit relatives at Brookston returning home.
Miss Marguerite *Piers, of Jacksonville, Ind., who has been visiting Misses Ethel and Mae Clarke, went to Chicago yesterday to visit her unclg, David Piers, before returning home. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Amsler entertained at dinner Sunday a number of friends. The out of town guests were her mother, Mrs. H. D. Clark and son Gideon, of Fowler; Miss Georgia Dickinson and friends, Miss Fielding, of Chicago; Delbert Alison and family and Albert Dickinson and family and two friends, of Remington.

CALLED UPON TO EXPLAIN., Bank Commissioner Was Talking to Darling When Wife Stepped In Office. ~ Here la a story that has been going the rounds in Oklahoma and that is worth passing on: Nels Darling, who is scheduled to speak at the Chautauqua this summer on the subject of “Community Interest,” is the president of a bank in a town called Bessie, in Oklahoma. He was there one day when he put in a long distance telephone call for Mr. Langford, state bank commissioner. Mr. Langford’s secretary received the cull and, turning to him, said, “Mr. Langford, here is Bessie on the line.” Mr. Langford took the receiver and said, “Hello, Bessie; Is this you, Darling?” At just this moment Mrs. Langford happened to step into the office.
