Wartena and two sons, of Leßoy, 111., are visiting A. Wartena and family. Miss Myrtle White, of DeMotte, went to Monon Saturday to visit her sister, Mrs. W. A. Burns. Dr. C. E. Johnson, now an officer in the U. S. medical corps, is traveling with Battery B, from Purdue. Although no definite date has been set as yet, the Van Rensselaer Club picnic will probably be held July 27. Mrs. A. P. Simpson, of El Paso, HL, is visiting her daughter, Miss Simpson, a teacher at the Monnett School. The Pythian Sisters will hold an entertainment Wednesday afternoon of this week at the home of Mrs. Amzie Laßue.
The infantile paralysis plague is making headway to an alarming degree and new cases are being reported daily throughout the country. The Ladies’ Industrial Society of the Methodist church will hold a meeting at the church Tuesday afternoon in the church parlors. All are urged to be present. Miss Nell Drake went to Monticello today, where she will meet a company of girls from Kentland and Chicago, with whom she will camp at Edgewater for about two weeks. The Mt. Ayr Telephone Co. has been sold to G. A. Gerrard, of Hebron, Ind. Earl Bruner, who has been managing the plant, will remain in charge until August Ist, when Mr. Gerrard move to Mt. Ayr. Robert Wartena, who lives at Indiana Harbor, is very sick with typhoid fever, and his mother, Mrs. Abe Wartena, went there last Friday to help care for him. His wife has just recovered from a case of typhoid. The Ladies Foreign Missionary Society of the M. El church will meet Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Wm. Washburn, where a picnic supper will be held. Those attending are asked to bring a plate, knife, fork, spoon and cup.
