Not Smoke, but Snow.

F. D. Young of the United ; States weather bureau has advanced three theories to account for the “smoke” reported from time to time as having been seen rising from Mt. Hood, in Oregon. One is that the “smoke” is snow, blown by a strong wind from a certain direction from the cliffs igside the crater rim and thrown high in the air. Another is that clouds drifting into, the open side of the crater rim are transformed into a column of vapor and carried upward by rising air currents. The third Is that snow thrown by slides on hot patches of rock inside the crater Is concerted into steam which, being carriM upward, looks like smoke.
