WILSbN AND MARSHALL NAMED AT ST. LOUIS Nomination Acclaimed By Roar of “Ayes” at 11:52 Thursday Night —No Opposition. Woodrow’ Wilson and Thomas R. Marshall were unanimously Hamed to head the democratic national ticket again, this year. The chorus of “ayes” came at 11.-52 Thunsday night when delegates demanded that the delaying preliminaries cease and that the ticket be named. There was no opposition, the talk of naming another instead of Marshall for vice-presi-dent having dissipated after it became known that the president favored- his present, colleague for the place. The convention did not finish its work, however, as the platform was not ready and there was another session at 11 o’clock today, Friday, for the purpose of passing the platform. President Wilson’s own plank, charging conspiracy among some foreign born citizens for the benefit of foreign powers and denouncing any political party which benefits from such a situation, was made a part of the platform. W. J. Bryan addressed ths convention and was applauded.
Old Trustees of Monnett School All Re-Elected. * - All of the eleven trustees of the Monnett *Schools were re-elected at the annual meeting of the board held at the school Thursday afternoon. •They are, Henry Amsler, Dr. M. D. Gwin, J. D. Allman, C. R. Dean, C. H. Porter, Mrs. H. L. Brown, Mrs. F. A. Turfler, and Revs. Paul C. Curnick, G. W. .Switzer, C. W. Postil 1 ! and C. L. Harper. Dr. Gwin was chosen president, C. R. Dean vic<.-president, J. D. Allman treasurer, Mrs. Brown, secretary, and Rev. C. W. PoStdll assistant secretary. - , Drs. .Switzer and Curnick were appointed to pay a visit to Bishop Thomas Nicholson ip Chicago to discuss with him the work of the school in its relation to the Northwest Indiana conference. A committee was appointed to aid in selecting a financial secretary and another committee to decide on building plans. _____ St. Joseiph’s college is holding ts final examinations preparatory to closing the term. Next Wednesday is the getaway day for students. Miss Nettie Price, the librarian, who has long been ill, is now very weak and her physician, Dr. Washburn, believes that a transfusion if blood is necessary to restore her strength and if a healthy donor can be found the transfusion will take place this evening. Mexican raiders crossed the border again Thursday and three American soldiers were killed and a number of others wounded. The Mexicans were met by our border troops and eight are reported killed. If another punitive expedition crosses the border in pursuit ,of the bandits it is said they will meet .opposition from Carranza soldiers assembled along the Mexican side of the border. .
Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Brunsdon and Mr. W. R. Shesler, of 32 Waltjiam street, yesterday attended the graduation exercises of the Northwestern Dental Surgery class, held at the" Northwestern gymnasium in Evanston,, where Dr. John P. Shesler, a brother of Mrs. Brunsdon, graduated with a class of 800 with high honors. Dr. Shesler after a preparatory course at Rensselaer graduates from Northwestern With 400 points in excess of the required number, which is very gratifying to his Hammond friends and relatives and foretells a successful practice.—Hammond Times.
