GOOD MIXTURE FOR CHICK’S FIRST MEAL

Stale Bread, Hard-Boiled Egg and Chicken Grit Recommended by lowa College.

For the chicks’ first meal the lowa State college poultry department recommends the following mixture: onefifth loaf of stale bread, one hardboiled egg, one-fifth pound chicken grit. Feed only what chicks will clean up at a time. For the second meal feed mixture, one part by weight pinhead oats, one part fine cracked dent corn, one part fine cracked wheat. The third meal should be the same as the first and so on until the bread mixture is used, which is based on a supply of 20 chicks.
