Lawson H. Myer Resigns As Gary Telephone Manager.
Lawson H. Meyer, son of Frank B. Meyer, former postmaster of this city and a son-in-law ofW. R..Nowels, of Rensselaer, has resigned his position with the Gary Telephone exchange, with which he has been connected for the past seven years. Mr. Meyer will devote his entire time to the business of . the Meyer drug company, at 848 Broadway. Mr. Meyer is well known by nearly all Rensselaer residents and the following appended article was taken fi om the Gary Tribune: “Lawson H. Meyer, for seven years manager of the Gary exchange of the Chicago Telephone Company and for fifteen years in the service of the Bell Telephone people, today forwarded his resignation as manager of the local exchange and will engage in private business in Gary. It is not known who will succeed Mr. Meyer as manager here of the Chicago Telephone Company, since his resignation will not reach the officials of the company until late today. “Mr. Meyer Will not devote his entire time and attention to the business of the Meyer Drug Company, whose drug store is at 848 Broadway. Mr. Meyer has been interested with his father, Frank B. Meyer, in the stoic ever since it was established but his father has managed the business. Mr. Meyer will now take an active part in the conduct of the drug store and with his wide acquaintanw will undoubtedly make a big success of the business. Lawson H. Meyer came to Gary in March, 1909, and took charge of the local branch of the Chicago Telephone Company. At that time the office of the local exchange was on the second floor of the Feuer building and there were only 400 phones in the city. The Gary exchange has grown under his management until there are now 3,300 telephones in operation in this city. The present telephone exchange building on Madison street was built four years ago and is one of the best buildings of its kind in this section of the country. “Before coming to Gary Mr. Meyer was connected with the Bell Telephone Co. in Lake Forest and Highland Park, 111., coming from the latter place to Gary seven years ago. He has been connected with the telephone service fifteen years altogether. Mr. Meyer’s many friends in Gary will regret his severance from the telephone service but extend their beat wishes for his future success in the drug business.
