Mrs. Roe Laßue visited Wednesday at Rensselaer. Whitehead transacted business at DeMotte Tuesday. Bobbie Manns was here over Sunday seeing his best. Harvey and Mary Austin were Momence visitors Monday. Charlie Brown is erecting a new cottage in Gorman’s addition. Goldie Belle Biggs returned Saturday from a visit to South Bend. W. B. McNeil and Harmon Clark went Tuesday to Chicago on business. Rev. Chas. R. Ball, of Roselawn, was found dead in bed Sunday morning. ; The burial service of the late Jacob Hanaway, of DeMotte, occurred here Saturday. Robert Mannan and John T. Biggs were business visitors at Rensselaer Monday.. James C. Anderson and Ye Editor were- business visitors at Kankakee last Thursday.
The funeral services of Mrs. Elizabeth Melser, who died in Chicago, were held here Friday. Roy Cox has quit the barber business and will engage as a farmer east of LaCrosse. Next. J. J. Tomlinson and wife, of Kentland, visited here last week at the home of his son. Mrs. Henry Heidenblut went to Rensselaer Saturday for a visit 1 the home of her daughter. Simon Fendig was able to be down town last Thursday, and Friday was again taken ill. Stembel & Sons have moved thenoffice from the elevator to the K. of P. building on Main street. Dr. and Mrs. W. J. Sblt, of San» Pierre, visited here Sunday with Dr. and Mrs. M. B. Fyfe. John Mannan, of Tefft, visited here over Sunday with his son, Robert Mannan and wife. Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Jensen visited Wednesday evening and Thursday last with relatives at South Bend. Chas. Jensen, of Goodland, came Saturday evening for a visit over Sunday with home folks and see his best. The price of paper has increased so much that printing offices have all been compelled to raise the price of stationery to their customers. Rev. Downey, of Lochiel, came Saturday to conduct the funeral service of the late Mrs. W. H. Wells at De. Motte and visited here over Sunday; with friends. Mrs. Charles Wood and daughter/ of Belshajv, Ind., visited here over! Sunday at the home of her sister,, Mrs. Louis Pinter.
Elwood Davis, O. M. Turner and Enos Hibbs have been here with their house moving outfit, moving the Hilliard house to the Mrs. Dahncke lot. /acob Melser and family, of South Bend, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Schulze and Joseph Rogers, of Chicago, attended the funeral of the late Mrs. Elizabeth Melser here last Saturday. A narrow escape from what might have been a disastrous fire last Thursday evening, when she returned home and found the house full of smoke, the result of a defective filue and only for a few timely buckets of water was the fire .extinguished. The damage to the household effects was slight. Noah Stonebreaker lost his pocket book containing $27.00 in currency and some valuable papers just where he left it. He knew the place because he had left it several times before in the same place, but when he went back to the place where he knew he left it, it wasn’t there, but a good, honest friend found it, and now Stoney is happy.
