CROWBAR PIERCES HIS BODY
Fellow Workmen Pull It Out and Unfortunate Man Has Chance to Recover. Grass Valley, Cal. —How a man could strike upon the sharp end of a crowbar, have it pierce his flesh and come out under a rib and still live is the remarkable part of an accident which befell Joseph Blake. He was working at his father’s min* ing claim and was standing upon a bank when he felt the earth give way under him. He jumped and in his excitement did not notice the bar which was sticking out of the ground. It penetrated his back in the lower part and ranged upward toward the waist line and emerged under the lower rib. He was rushed to a sanitarium after his fellow employees had pulled the bar out of the flesh. It is believed he will recover.
