Painting a Dark Surface Light.

When proposing to paint a dark surface white, more satisfactory results will be obtained by first applying a coat of compromise color, half-way between the ground and the new finish, and then, over this, putting the white. For instance, over dark green put a coat of dark gray. A final coat of white to cover the gray makes a more pleasing finish than would two coats of white over the green.
