Sixteen Teams Will Meet at Gary For District Championship.

Increase in number of teams participating from a dozen to sixteen, and with improved playing on the part of nearly all the teams which were entered last year, the second annual northwest Indiana basketball tournament March 10 and 11, is to be like "Barnum & Bailey’s show, Bigger and Better. It is the opinion of J. E. Gilroy, superintendent of physical training in the public schools of Gary, that the winner of the approaching tourney will have to run a stiffer gauntlet than last year. He points to Valparaiso, South Bend, Emerson and Froebel schools of Gary, East Chicago and Laporte as teams from which basketball can be expected and adds that if Whiting and Hammond improve as they have in the past few weeks they will be first string teams. 'Lake, Porter, Newton, Jasper, Laporte and St Joseph are the five counties in. the section this year. This adds Rensselaer and Washington, who were not in the zone last year, hence their strength cannot be estimated. Fifteen hundred spectators can be accommodated at the Froelbel floor in Gary, where the tourney is to be held. Read our overcoat “ad.” It contains prices of interest to you. Prices you cannot equal.
