Prosperous Jamaicans.
A prosperous and law-abiding community of 20,000 Indians exists in Jamaica. This is related in the annual report for last year of the immigration department of that flourishing island. The season was one of the worst droughts known in the island for 50 years, but notwithstanding, a large amount of money was deposited in the banks in the names of the Indians, who now own cbnsiderable property in the island. Recruitment from India was suspended during the year owing to the war and those immigrants who completed the period of their Indentures almost all elected to remain on in the island, so there was little coming and going. The report states that' sickness decreased and that the standard of living Improved owing to the healthy surroundings in which the Indians live.
