BENTON COUNTY TRUSTEE UNDER SERIOUS CHARGE

G. T. Emerson, of Otterbein, Investigated By the State Board of Accounts. The state board of in a report sent to the attorney general, charges George T. Emerson, trustee of Boljver township, Benton county from 1912 to 1915, directly with owing $2,092.54 and S2O. The two. amounts are made up principally of overpayments sot school supplies. In the latter list are amounts, totaling approximately sl,Boo, that were paid to Levi Bowser, a school supply dealer of Lafayette. Emerson paid Bowser amounts for certain kinds of coal wherein the examiners found the costs a ton ran from $1.50 to $2.00 highbr than the same coal could be obtained by Emerson from local'dealers, who would deliver it to the buildings. Emerson, it was charged, formerly had bought the same kinds of coal from local dealers at the lower, prices and therefore knew that the prices he was paying Bowser were too high, it was explained at the state board of accounts.
