UNNATURAL MOTHER GAVE UP CHILDREN
Threatened Officers But Sheriff Hess Worked Smooth Ganie and Secured Her Shotgun. Brook Reporter: Wednesday the judge-sent a summons for Mrs. Useless Heistand to bring her children into court.' The parties who took the summons were informed that' the aforesaid lady had an arsenal and a stock of ammunition ready to protect her children in the sacred precincts of her home forever. On Thursday Sheriff HessCaccbmpanied by a deputy, arrived at the Heistand home and found the belligerent lady at the door, shotgun in hand, ready to carry but her ultimatum. By using all the eloquence he possessed the sheriff persuaded her to give up the gun and come to town with him. While there she was guarded by Marshal Deardurff while the sheriff proceeded to the home once more and secured the children and took them to Kentland. After this Mrs. Heistand was taken to her home in an auto. The intention is to place the children where they will receive proper care. For several years they have been a charge on this community and the generous donations made them have been squandered by-the mother. She only retained them to enable her through their helplessness to secure food and clothing from the generous people of Brook. She has never dope anything for them that a loving mother should and some things have happened that show that they need advice as much as clothing and food.
