Sir John French Removed As British Commander In Chief.
Surprise was caused in Great Britain Wednesday by the announcement that Sir John French was to be removed as commander in chief of the British armies in French and iFlanders and Sir Douglas Haig ordered to take his place. No explanation was offered and the reason is so far conjectural. It is generally thought that the change is the prelude to a new offensive drive, against the Germans on the western front.
