It is reported on good authority that John Knapp and family, who moved to New \ork a few months ago, expect to return to Rensselaer as soon as he can dispose of his property there. The basketball lid for the high school team will be pried off Friday night when the Wheatfield team hooks up with the locals. Andy Smith, Purdue coach, is to be let out according to the reports from members of the faculty. His attitude toward university standard of conduct is the reason given. In the Hammond straw vote contest Johnson now has 1720 votes, McCray 540 and .Goodrich 202. Watson is first choice with 467, and Miller, who has withdrawn, had 198. Indiana University will play the state university of Florida in Indianapolis iNov. 18, 1916, on the official opening of the Dixie highway. At the Lonigcliff insane hospital there are now about 1,100 persons, including empolyes, and an idea of the great amount of food consumed there on Thanksgiving day can be obtained from the following announced menu: Chicken, 700 pounds; two barrels cranberries; three barrels celery: forty bushels apples; 300 mince pies: eighteen bushels potatoes; two barrels of cider, forty gallons oysters, and three hundred loaves of bread. A plan of four or five high school girls to play hookey and spend the morning at the skating rink was nipped in the bud today when one of the girl’s mother began making inquiries over the telephone and found the girl was not at school. Inquiries by the school faculty disclosed the fact that other girls were missing, and three or four were found at the skating rink, and when informed that inquiries were being made for them there was a scampering from the rink and the girls are in school again this afternoon. This timely discovery may prevent a recurrence of a like attempt in the future. Dress shirts.
