Obituary of Emma Lovina VanDoozer
Emma Lovina Bevans was born May 22, 1830, in Townsend township, Norfolk county, Upper Canada, the eighth child in a family of 12 children —seven boys and five girls— bom to Moses and Martha Post Bevans, who emigrated to the states in the fall of 1832 and settled in Summit county, Ohio, the following year, about 5 miles southwest of the now city of Akron, where she spent her girlhood days. When about 16 years of age she was converted and baptized by Elder .Lewis Raymond in Syndusky Bay, and united with the .Baptist church in the city of Syndusky. She was of a retiring nature, always ready to give a reason for the hope within, a faithful friend and counselor to anyone in need; ready to lift up the fallen, a firm, unfailing defender of the faith once delivered to the saints and consistent in her Christian lfe, never refusing help to any, even the wandering Willies. She remained young in heart to the end of life, and as hopeful and buoyant in spirit as a girl. A faithful and devoted companion; possessed a motherly interest in the young; although denied the joys of motherhood, shd became a foster mother to one orphan boy and one half-orphan girl.
She was united in marriage to Albert VanDoozer April 18, 1866, in Ross township, Lake county, Ind. Their golden wedding would have been celebrated next April had she lived till then. .She was looking forward to that event with great expectations.
She passed to her well earned rest from her home in Wheatfield; Jasper county, Ind., Nov. 28, 1916, aged 85 years, 6 month sand 6 days, leaving to mourn their loss a husband, several nephews and nieces, grand nephews and grand nieces, besides a host of
friends. The funeral services were held at the M. E. church Wednesday, Dec. 1, at 2 o’clock, by Rev. J. P. Green, of Rensselaer, assisted by the pastor of the church. Interment at Wheatfield cemetery. ,
