NELLIE DUSENBERRY SETTLES FOR $1,500

Vernon Hagen, a Young Man at Morocco, Compromises Case With Pretty Fairbury Girl. A sensational rape case that was venued to this county from Newton came to a close by compromise this Wednesday afternoon just as the jury had been selected to try the case. The complainant was Miss Nellie Dusenberry, a very pretty girl 17 years of age, whose home is in Fairbury, 111. The state was represented by Prosecutor Reuben Hess, Deputy Chas. M. Sand, and Attorneys Sellers, of Monticello, and Sammons, of eKntland, also by an attorney from Fairbury, 111. The rape case was only one of two against Hagen, the other being a paternity charge. The circumstances w’ere substantially as follows: The Dusenberry girl was visiting at Morococ and young Hagen kept company with her and and after some time it developed that she was to become a mother and she charged that her condition was due to an attack made on her by Hagen. She charged him with rape and also with paternity. The baby was bom last July, being brought into the world by a Caesarean operation. , The state had no authority to settle by ompromise but it is said that the attorneys did not feel very safe of their case and while they were getting the jury selected the terms of compromise were agreed upon and Hagen is to pay Miss Dusenberry $1,500.
