Editor Judaon Fitzpatrick, of The Francesville Tribune, accompanied by his cousin, Miss Fitzpatrick, visited Rensselaer Saturday afternoorl. Today is the last tax paying day without the 10 per cent penalty and County Treasurer Fell and his aides are having a busy finish. John Meyers, of Kniman, was here Saturday and bought a new Dodge car of the local agents, M. I. Adams & Son. The Junior Aid Society of the Christian meet, Thursday evening at 7:30 with Mrs. Oren Parker. Tom Hollingsworth, son of G. K. Vic Hoover came up from Purdue Saturday for a tfeek-iend visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. I. Hopver. Vic is taking the pharmacy course at Purdue. - Lloyd Parks, who lias been working in Chicago since returning from the exposition, came home Sunday. He may return to Chicago later and take a job in the stock yards. U. T. Merritt and wife and'C. W. Merritt and wife, of Remington, accompanied by Miss Nannie Merritt, of Beuna Vista, Fla., spenj Sdnday with Mr. and Mrs. John Merritt. Ed Fay was kicked by a mule while working at the shop one day last week and a particle of bone broken at the end of the large bone of one leg at the knee. He is able to get out but with a decided limp. Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Steward left Sunday for "Richmond to attend the state meeting of the board of charities and corrections. He goes as the representative of Jasper county. It is the annual meeting. A. A. Fell and wife drove over to his Carpenter township farm Sunday. He has been having some painting done and is getting things fixed up preparatory to occupying the farm soon after his term as county treasurer expires.
Joe and Jim Hallagan made a business trip to Kansas City last week. They report that J. J. Ernest Cook, of Hanging Grove township, returned Saturday from a two weeks’ stay in Tippecanoe county, where he rented a farm on Shawnee prairie, east of O'Dell. He will now go to Illinois and work during the corn husking season and get things shaped up for starting his farm work in the spring. J. A. Swindler, principal of the high school, attended the state institute at Indianapolis last week and during his absence Mrs. Swindler was visited by her father, Gilbert McKinney and by her sister, Mrs. Carl Weigle and baby, of Otterbein. Mr. McKinney has returned home, \>ut Mrs. Weigle and baby are remaining for a longer visit. Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Golden entertained twenty-five guests at 'supper Saturday evening, the occasion being Mrs. Caldwell’s birthday, who is the mother of Mrs. Golden. Mr. Golden’s father and mother were also there from Lake Cicott. Earl Siedly andMorgan Caldwell furnished music. A very enjoyable time was had. Hamilton & Kellner sell the famous Pitson hard coal. There is none betteri Attorney W. H. Parkinson w r as able to be up town last Saturday for the first time for a week, having been suffering from a nattack of inflammatory rheumatism which went very hard with him and he lost about twenty pounds in flesh. Today he is feeling somewhat better and was able to drive over to Kentland to look after matters in the court. Mrs. Parkinson accompanied him. - Herman Hordeman is today beginning the construction of a good new residence at the Hordeman farm just west of town. The house will cost about $2,000 and wiW'have a bath and other modem improvements. The carpenter work will be done by Louie Muster and John Lane. Presumably Herman, who is a bachelor, is going to invite some one to occupy the house with him when it is completed.
