Excelsiors, Classy Chicago Team, to Play St. Joe Sunday.

The Excelsiors, one of the topnotchers in the football ranks in Chicago, will meet Coach Parker’s St. Joe eleven on the college grounds next Sunady. The excellent showing of the collegians last Sunday has caused a revival of football enthusiasm at that institution which has been on the wane for the past several years, and the squad has been going at their practice with renewed vigor after their victory in the opening game with the Holy Cross team. Coach Parker is doubtful if Silverstein will be able to be in his position at quar--1 terback Sunday, but he has Smith to fall back upon and there will be no worry in that line. Coach Parker has devoted most of the time this week to strengthening the forward wall, as well a$ the tackling department. Monday’s Chicago Eraminer contained a rather extended account of the clash between the Commonwealth Edison eleven and the Excelsiors, which the latter won 6to 0. In comi menting on this game the Examiner : sport writer calls the Excelsiors one of the best independent elevens in the city and was most favorably imj pressed with their shifty attack, their remarkable defense work and their all-round play in general. If this report is to be taken as a criterion of their play, then Coach Parker and his gang will be facing a mighty hard contest when the whistle blows.
