TO DO AN “IMPOSSIBLE” TRICK
Drink a Covered Glass of Water Without Uncovering It , This is a simple trick which can be performed with little apparatus. You announce that you can place a glass of water upon the table, cover It with a hat and then drink the water without removing the hat. This sounds like an Impossible trick, and everyone Is eager to see It performed. It Is done this way. You stand a glass of water on an ordinary table, borrow a hat and place It over the glass. While doing this you talk and emphasize the wonder of the trick and say that on no account must anyone touch the hat. Then you go under the table and make pretense of drinking the water through the table. Everyone is, of course, skeptical, and, after coming from under the table you ask one of the audience to remove the hat to see If the water has been drunk or not. As soon as this Is done, you seize the glass and drink the water and then announce to your surprised audience that you have done what you promised to do —namely, to drink the water without removing the hat, someone else having removed the hat for you.
