Fostmtster-Geneiral Burleson will ask for $4,000,000 less to run the rural routes next year than the present year. He expects to accomplish it by lengthening the routes and requiring carriers to use automobiles, also to provide for an increase of SIOO per year in salaries of carriers. If this is accomplished it will be done by reducing the number of carriers. In Tippecanoe county the plan to lengthen routes is being tried out. The republican has believed for a long time that routes should he increased in length to fifty miles, the carriers serving twice as many patrons as they did on the old horse routes. The barrier’s job is somewhat of a snap When it permits the carrier to get home at 11 o’clock and>have no duties the balance of the day. A better way would be to pay more, extend the routes thus serve many more people. There would not be very many winter days when the routes could not be carried and provision could be made during such cases.
