Pictures of the Eastland Disaster At the Gayety Tonight.
At 7:30 on the morning of July 24th, in the very heart of the city of Chicago, 2,500 joyous picnickers crowded a magnificent excursion steamer to its full capacity and at 7:40 a disaster of such magnitude as to astound the world .occurred. The steamer Eastland had capsized, dashing her cargo of human freight into the waters of the Chicago River. Exactly at 7:45 the camera force were filming what will go down in history as one of the greatest disasters of the world, 2,500 terrified, shrieking human beings lashing the quiet waters of the river in their horrifying fight for life, a scene without parallel in motion photography. In addition to these pictures we will run 4,000 feet of film and a big time vaudeville act of three people. Admission 5c and 10c.
