Onion Crop May Not Be A Total Loss At Newland.
The Republican was informed today by an onion grower at Newland that the crop there may not be as complete a failure as was expected following the floods and that he and others are surprised to find onions on which the water had stood for three weeks still solid and apparently setting in to complete their growth. The tops on onions from the size of ones thumb to the size of a dollar are still green and there is a new shoot in the center and apparently they will grow to a much larger size. They are in need of cultivations and growers will be busy for the next few weeks. Woods have grown in the water and will have to be pulled out, but the most serious need is- the loosening of the soil.
