Purdue Track Coach Dead After Operation.
James Temple, assistant, physical director and head track coaeh at Purdue University, died Thursday night at the St. Elizabeth’s hospital in Lafayette. Death was quite sudden following a minor operation, having a fatty tumor removed from his neck. Temple was a large and sturdy an and it is thought that he had developed what is known as the athletic heart, which could not stand the shock of the operation. Coach “Jimmy” Temple had only been at Purdue since last spring. He was known as an able track coach, having coached at Wisconsin, Minnesota and South Dakota and for ten years at the West Point naval academy. He was a man with quick insight as to track men’s abilities and has been very successful. His sudden death will be regretted by his many admirers.
