GERMANS BURN A RUSSIAN TOWN

In the German advance toward Libau, the Teutons retaliated for the incendiarism of the Russians in eastern Prussia by setting fire to many of the towns and villages in their path. The picture shows the Russian town of Szwale going up in flames as the poor inhabitants flee with their scant goods. German officers and soldiers are observing the effects of their work.
